The iPhone SE Haptic Touch doesn’t work with notifications. Here’s a workaround

The iPhone SE is sure to be a hit—it's essentially an iPhone 8 with the iPhone 11's processor stuffed inside at the very affordable price of $399. It's got a lot of desirable features like wireless charging, IP67 water resistance, and Portrait Mode on the front and rear cameras. It also has Haptic Touch, Apple's name for a long-press with haptic feedback. Haptic Touch on the iPhone SE works everywhere you'd expect it to: on app icons, on web links, on times, dates, and addresses in Messages... everywhere except, for some reason, in notifications. For notifications on the lock screen or in the notification center (swipe down from the top of the screen), long-pressing does nothing. It's quite a drag, as many notifications show previews and enable quick actions from the Haptic Touch menu. You can snooze a smart camera motion detection, view an email and archive or delete it, or type out a quick reply to a text message. To read this article in full, please clic...

‘Crossy Road Castle’ is a return to form for Apple Arcade

Apple Arcade hasn’t looked too hot lately. It started out well enough, thanks to a starting lineup that included some flashy titles like Sayonara Wild Hearts and a smattering of titles from well-known brands like Lego . In those early days, it was easy to argue that dismissing Apple Arcade as a mere “mobile game service” was doing it a disservice. Lately, though? Not so much. That’s not to say there haven’t been some enjoyable games like Doomsday Vault , but few of the new ones caught that award-bait “ art house ” vibe I championed last June. We’re not even at the six-month mark yet, and just a few days ago you could already find some other outlets penning editorials that all but proclaimed the death of Apple’s gaming service. 'Little America' review: Apple's big, hopeful love letter to immigration

If Apple really wanted its fledgling streaming service to nab more awards last year, it probably should have worked Little America into its launch lineup. This little "anthology" of eight unrelated half-hour episodes—each following immigrants from different countries—is the best thing we've seen from Apple TV+ to date. It's smart, both in content and how it handles casting. It's relevant, especially in an age when immigration dominates frightful headlines and lies at the heart of some of our country's worst contemporary sins. Little America has big things to say. ‘Dickinson’ review: A comedy for the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels

Emily Dickinson hardly seems like the ideal subject of a launch-day Apple TV+ comedy starring Hailee Steinfeld in the title role. Dickinson, after all, is probably poetry’s most famous recluse. A woman who spent many of her 55 years sequestered in her bedroom while scribbling chipper lines like, “ I heard a fly buzz when I died .” If Apple had gone the Masterpiece Theatre route with Dickinson , all interest would have died, too. Apple, though, wisely has the courage to think different. Consider one of Dickinson ’s first scenes, in which Emily’s brother Austin (Adrian Enscoe) trots up on a horse.
